Donation will help create a special haven

Linsey and Giovanni Ferri have now raised over £11,000 through their fundraising drive, which began after they sadly lost their son, Enrico, who was stillborn at 36 weeks in June last year.

Their baby, who they call Rico, inspired them to join efforts to develop a maternity bereavement suite at Wishaw General Hospital.

Linsey (33) and Gio (36) have taken comfort from helping to gather funds for the suite, which will provide a quiet, homely area separated from other parents and babies where bereaved mums and dads can spend some quiet time with their child.

The couple have, happily, now had another baby, Emillio, who was born in May.

He was with them when they visited the hospital to present their cheque – their second donation after they contributed over £5,000 earlier this year through their Remembering Rico fund.

The latest donation came after a charity night in Thorniewood Social Club in Viewpark and a comedy night in Glasgow involving comedian and radio presenter Fred MacAulay, which jointly raised over £4,400.

Gio raised an additional £1,680 by running the Loch Ness Marathon, in four hours and 15 minutes, his first race at that distance.

Linsey said: “All the staff at Wishaw General were so caring and helpful during the very difficult time we went through.

“We had such a supportive experience that we were determined to do something to help the hospital.”

NHS Lanarkshire clinical services manager for women’s services Lyn Clyde, who received the cheque, said: “On behalf of all of the team, I’d like to offer my thanks to Linsey and Gio for this second generous donation.

“It’s wonderful that they have done so much to raise funds and help others.”
