Interested in Gaelic? Here’s some information about a new group being set up across Lanarkshire

A new network is to be set up in Lanarkshire for those with an interest in Gaelic language and culture.

The Moray Language Centre has been in touch to announce that it is launching a Lanarkshire Gaelic Networked Community initiative in the local area.

And its organiser Finlay MacLeod now wants to hear from both fluent Gaelic speakers and learners in the hope of co-ordinating a series of activities that will increase their understanding of the language.

He said: “The prime objective of a Lanarkshire Gaelic Networked Community is in bringing together a group of likeminded people enthusiastic for a locally based stimulating range of Gaelic centred activities and opportunities, that would help in bringing Gaelic into their lives as a practical proposition.

“Over and above those already mentioned, the invitation is open to everyone over 18 years of age regardless of whatever area of the Gaelic language and culture interests them, a warm welcome awaits.

“The important first step will be the holding of an information meeting in which all attendees can find out what exactly Gaelic Networked Communities are all about.

“On such an occasion, discussion on how to take things forward will also take place. There is a great deal of information on this subject that one would do well to become acquainted with, as well as having someone to discuss it with.

“Alternatively you can contact me at The Moray Language Centre, Campbell Street. Portessie, Buckie, AB56 1TJ.”
