Double drugs swoop on homes in Bellshill and Motherwell

Officers from Lanarkshire’s Divisional Alcohol and Violence Reduction Unit seized the drugs in the two-pronged operation which was carried out in the past week.

Police say the first recovery took place on the afternoon of Wednesday, January 20 when officers with a warrant searched a house in Bellshill’s Motherwell Road.

They retrieved a quantity of drugs believed to be heroin, cocaine, cannabis, amphetamines and Valium with an estimated street value of £265,000.

Among the other items seized was a five-figure sum of cash which had been stored on the premises.

This led to the arrest of two men, aged 37 and 45 who were expected to appear in court by time of going to press.

The second drugs raid took place on the morning of Saturday (January 23) at a house on Dalriada Crescent in Motherwell.

Officers acting on warrant searched a property and recovered a quantity of drugs, believed to be cannabis with an estimated street value of £255,000.

No arrests have been made at this time in connection with this recovery and enquiries are continuing.

Commenting on the raids, Sergeant Thomas Cairns said: “These high-value recoveries show our commitment to detecting and disrupting the supply and production of drugs in Lanarkshire.

“We will continue to work to disrupt supply routes and protect those in our local communities who are affected by the illicit drug trade.”
