Consistency is key for boss Graham Alexander as Motherwell look to build on Ross County win

The Steelmen came from behind to win 2-1 at Ross County last Wednesday and Alexander insists they need to make that count for more than just a one-off victory.

Speaking ahead of today’s match, he said: “I said after Ross County you can only win three points in one game, but it has to count for more than that.

“The bigger picture is it has to be taken forward into a consistent run of results, and that’s what our aim is.

“We don’t want to just pick up sporadic wins. We want to get a bit of consistency into our results.

“We have had a consistency in our performances over the last four games - not for full games, but you have to give the opposition credit for that, but for big chunks of those games, we’ve played really well and played some good football.

“It’s a slight progression each time and that’s what we have to do against Dundee United which will be just as tough as any game we’ve played this season.”

Alexander has also enjoyed having a full week of training after not being in action on Saturday, saying: “It’s been valuable and we’ve been fortunate to have that time because we are here for a day and then we have a game and it’s quite hectic.

“For us, consistent performances in the team only come from training, boys taking those aspects and showcasing it in games.

“We have to continue to replicate those sessions and ideas and fine-tune things.

“The players have to understand what they are doing well.”
