Irate Councillor Agnes Magowan has contacted this newspaper demanding to know why the authority permitted this before road widening works were completed.

The move has prompted a storm of protest amidst road safety fears which moved up a notch when the Canadian chain threw open its doors on Tuesday, December 22. The authority insisted it was within its rights to permit this following talks with the firm.

However, Councillor Magowan said: “I am furious at the views of the public not being taken into account without these works being completed.

“They were due to be discussed at a planning meeting at the end of the month but still, the opening was allowed.

“I’m a supporter of community empowerment which has been ignored in this instance as objections of the local people and councillors have not been taken into account and ignored. This is a very dangerous congested corner and the business should not have been allowed to open until it was safe.”
