Council agrees £10m contract for provision of mobility aids

North Lanarkshire Council is spending up to £10 million to provide stairlifts and other mobility aids in the authority area.

The council has engaged two companies, Dudley-based Handicare Accessibility Limited and Glasgow firm Stairlifts (Scotland), which will supply, install, remove and maintain stairlifts, lifts and step-lifts.

A council spokesman said: “This is a fund which has been set aside to cover the cost of these installations as and when they are needed.

“This service is run in partnership with the NHS and allows for modification to private residences as well as local authority and housing partnership properties.”
