On Saturday Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility is hosting a day of group exercise classes for both adults and children.

Group fitness is an effective way of kick-starting your exercise routine, allowing you to take part in a motivating workout while immersing yourself into an environment which may seem daunting at first.

Gillian Radigan (41) joined Ravenscraig last January with the goal of losing some weight and becoming healthier.

She kicked off her membership by taking part in the Aqua Fit class, before venturing into the group fitness classes.

Gillian said: “Although I was quite nervous at first, I settled in really quickly. I do a few classes, legs bums and tums, Body Pump, Kettlebells, and they’re all great.

“I went from practically no activity to being involved in these exciting classes in no time.”

Gillian, although daunted by the number of people in classes at first, was quickly welcomed by instructors, who taught her the basics and made her feel comfortable in the environment immediately.

She said: “The instructors are all so helpful and give you hints, tips and advice whenever you need it.

“When I was progressing in one class the instructor encouraged me to sign up for super circuits to take myself to the next level and I’m now progressing in that class.”

Gillian’s efforts throughout the last 12 months have seen her achieve her personal health and fitness goals.

Combining group exercise classes with using the gym at Ravenscraig, Gillian managed to lose five stones, and has no plans to stop there.

She said: “I’ve already been back in the gym this year and I’m going on holiday in summer so I’m hoping to lose another two stones before then.

“I would recommend for anyone to get involved in group exercise classes, everyone at Ravenscraig was so welcoming and the classes have really helped motivate me to achieve my goal of losing the weight.”
