A long serving stalwart of a Motherwell amateur music group has been honoured for his services over almost half a century.
Eddie Pearson, arguably the best known and certainly one of the best-loved members of Our Lady’s Musical Society, has received honorary life membership to mark a remarkable 48 years’ service.
A framed certificate to mark the accolade was presented to him by fellow honorary life member Raymond Lunny at one of the group’s recent rehearsals.
Eddie started his career in amateur musicals in Lanark, before transferring to Our Lady’s in Motherwell where he has starred in most shows since.
Adored by his female fans, especially as the Red Shadow in “Desert Song”, he won “Best Tenor” at the Waterford International Festival of Light Opera. His inimitable mellow voice has always charmed audiences and his superb rendition of “More I Cannot Wish You” in November’s production of “Guys and Dolls” brought tears to everyone’s eyes.
Next up for Eddie, and the rest of the society, is its next production “Anything Goes!”.
Open auditions for principal roles and dancers will take place next month and those interested should contact secretary John Fleming on 01698 262829 or visit Our Lady’s Opera
The society is also performing two charity concerts this month.
On Saturday they will perform in aid of - and at - St Bride’s Hall in Motherwell.
And on Friday, May 16, they will perform at a fundraising evening at the Holy Family Parish Centre in Mossend in aid of Classrooms for Malawi.
