A group of online chat room friends find themselves haunted by a mysterious, supernatural force in Unfriended, released on Friday at the Showcase in Bargeddie.

While video chatting one night, six high school friends receive a Skype message from a classmate who killed herself exactly one year ago.

At first they think it’s a prank, but when the girl starts revealing the friends’ darkest secrets, they realise they are dealing with something out of this world, something that wants them dead.

Pulling together a cast of relatively unknown actors the story is told entirely from a young girl’s computer desktop as Unfriended redefines ‘found footage’ for a new generation of teens.

This may be a first full-length movie for writer and producer Nelson Greaves, but he is no stranger to chills having penned episodes of the Sleepy Hollow television series and performed stunts in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

Russian director Leo Gabriadze makes his American cinema debut having made his name in his home land helming more comedic fayre such as Lucky Trouble starring Milla Jovovich.

This new partnership is already paying dividends as Unfriended, which was made for only $1,000,000, has already grossed more than $16,000,000 at the US box office.
