San Andreas, out now, at the Showcase in Bargeddie sees a rescue-chopper pilot makes a dangerous journey across the state in order to rescue his estranged daughter.
It’s a good old-fashioned mega-quake blockbuster, in which the city blocks of LA and San Francisco get well and truly busted by the ill-behaved tectonic plates of the Eastern Pacific rim.
As is usual with these affairs, the plot highlights the human angle and focuses hard in on how the quake affects the Gaines family – Ray (Johnson), wife Emma (Carla Gugino, and daughter Blake (Alexandra Daddario).
The Gaines are estranged from each other, but, happily, the quake proves just the thing that might bring them all back together again. When it strikes, LA rescue copter pilot Ray hooks up with Emma again and together they try to make it up to Frisco to look for Blake.
Expect some amazing special effects and edge of the seat tension as The Rock, while dangling at the end of a rope descending from the very whirlybird that he is simultaneously piloting, rams a bicep into a yawning chasm here and a pectoral into a spur of the moment sink hole there.
