Motherwell Cathedral will host a Celebrity Organ Recital on Wednesday, May 13, at 7.30pm, given by Professor Ian Tracey, Organist Titulaire of Liverpool Cathedral.
Professor Tracey is highly renowned as a recitalist both in the UK and internationally and has recorded numerous CDs of organ music of every genre.
As well as his post at Liverpool Cathedral, he also holds a number of other prestigious appointments.
These include: organist to the City of Liverpool at St George’s Hall, chorus master to The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Society, guest director of music for the BBC Daily Service and professor, fellow and organist at John Moores University in Liverpool.
John Pitcathley, director of music for the Diocese of Motherwel, said: “Ian’s recital in Motherwell represents a unique opportunity to hear one of the UK’s finest performers on the magnificent organ of Motherwell Cathedral.
“Since it’s refurbishment it is back to being the best organ in the whole of the Catholic church in Scotland and sounds fantastic as well as being very easy to play, not that Ian has to worry about that.
“The programme for the evening will include a number of light-hearted ditties as well as many of the organ classics, so there will be something for all musical tastes.”
Admission is £5, payable at the door.
