Festive cheer came to Bellshill on Thursday with the annual switch-on of the town’s Christmas lights at a ceremony in James Dempsey Way.

The event was organised by TCA (Town Centre Activities) Local and compered by television presenter Josie Smith who welcomed North Lanarkshire depute provost Jean Jones, Bellshill councillor Harry Curran, Mossend and Holytown councillor Frank McNally and children from Orbiston After School Group to the stage.

Also on hand was Santa Claus who made a special appearance to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and collect the letters from his magic post box which he will reply to once he gets back to the North Pole.

Providing the entertainment was former The Voice contestant Barbara Bryceland who kicked off the revelry by helping to get everyone in the mood as she led the singing of some classic Christmas songs.

In addition children’s entertainer Peter Merlin provided a little Christmas magic and Blok Dance Troupe acted as Santa’s elves for the day while delighting the crowd with their own choreographed routine.
