Scotland is once again embracing the roller disco
Scotland is once again embracing the roller disco

An energetic craze which swept the nation in the 80s has been given a new lease of life ... and it’s on its way to Motherwell.

Families will be given the chance to go back to the future at a special RollerStop event in Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility, Motherwell on Saturday.

Ravenscraig provides the biggest surface RollerStop has ever used, covering nine badminton courts.

RollerStop staff member Sefa Ucbas from Motherwell said: “Roller skating is a great way to keep fit and it’s fun for people of all ages.

“It’s the perfect activity for families to get a bit more active together in a safe, comfortable environment with expert instructions, skate hire and protective equipment.”

The roller disco takes place from 1-3pm, with skate hire available in a range of sizes from a child’s six up to an adult 12.

RollerStop owner Siobhan Lawson said: “I’m really looking forward to bringing a roller disco back to Motherwell.

“This is a brilliant floor surface to skate on and possibly our largest ever roller disco at 54 metres by 27 metres.

“We recommend booking in advance to guarantee skates in your size, although you can bring your own non-marking skates with both inlines and quads welcome.

“This session is open to everyone, both adults and children from the age of four up.

“We always get a great mixture of ages and abilities, from people who have never worn skates since they were kids to experienced wheel wizards.”

Adult entry is £5, under-18s is £3 and skate hire is £3.
