Two public meetings will be held next week in a bid to find out residents’ views on plans for the Bellshill Academy playing fields.
They are being organised by Active Bellshill Community, a group which aims to create facilites which could be used by a wide variety of sports.
The meetings will be held at the YMCA in Main Street next Thursday, March 20, from 5-7pm and on Saturday, March 22, from 10am to noon.
The group is considering a community buy-out and redevelopment of the Campbell Street pitches and has commissioned a six month feasibility study to establish what facilities local people would like to see available, design a facility and test if funding can be raised to fund and maintain the new facilities.
If it is established that the funding to redevelop the site can be raised, and the resulting complex can be run as a financially self-sustaining community enterprise, the steering group will then seek to establish ABC as a limited company with charitable status that will ensure the pitches are owned by and run for the benefit of the community.
Before Thursday’s meeting, between 3 and 5pm, there will be the opportunity for members of the public to drop in to talk to steering group members about the project.
