Nicky already up for second album

Nicholas McDonald

Nicholas McDonald launched his debut album this week - and the Motherwell teenager is already planning his follow-up release.

The X-Factor runner-up will be at the HMV store in Glasgow’s Buchanan Street tomorrow (Thursday) for a signing session to promote ‘In The Arms of an Angel’ which was released on Monday on RCA Records.

His debut release includes fan favourites from the show now honed to sheer vocal perfection and is manly a collection of contemporary covers.

They include Nicholas’s versions of Adele’s ‘Someone Like You’, Bruno Mars’s ‘Just The Way You Are’ and Westlife’s ‘Flying Without Wings’.

Also included is his debut single ‘Answerphone’.

But in an unusual move, particularly for a new artist, Nicky is intending two release two albums this year and ‘In The Arms of an Angel’ also included three original tracks, one co-written by the teenager, with the original material hinting at what can be expected from his second release.

After finishing runner up in last year’s X-Factor - during which he was consistently popular from the beginning of the series - it was no surprise when record company RCA quickly snapped him up.

Nicky was one of only two acts, along with eventual winner Sam Bailey, who were never placed in the ‘bottom two’ sing-off throughout the series.

And the 17-year-old has since cemented his status as a strong performer having embarked on the mammoth national X-Factor tour which ends at the LG Arena in Birmingham next week.

Nicholas will then concentrate on his post-X-Factor career and said he was delighted to be taken on by RCA.

He said: “When I found out that I was signing for RCA I was over the moon as I knew that they worked with some of the biggest artists in the world.

“It feels absolutely amazing to be recording my own album and I can’t wait to get it out there and give something back to all the fans who have supported me from the very start.”

Nicky’s signing session at HMv will start at 5pm.
