MOTHERWELL teenagers Hannah and Sophie Morrison added to their list of titles when they teamed up to capture the girls’ doubles crown at last week’s Scottish junior badminton championships.
The 15-year-old twins were second seeds for the competition but secured the title when they overcame top seeds Heather MacPherson (Edinburgh) and Lucy Nevin (Duns) 21-17, 21-14 in the final.
It was Hannah’s second title of the day as earlier she and Adam Hall of Mauchline, the top seeds, captured the mixed doubles competition with a 21-10, 21-12 victory over Sean Leith (Stonehaven) and Sarah Allen (Milngavie) in the final.
But the singles competition proved a disappointment for the girls who both fell victim to unseeded 14-year-old Julie McPherson whose success earned her the prize for the most meritorious performance of the tournament.
The Edinburgh youngster defeated Hannah in the semi-final and then completed a family double by beating Sophie in the final.
Sophie was on course to avenge her older sister’s defeat when she took the first set 22-20 but her opponent came back to win the next two sets 21-18 21-16.
