MOTHERWELL student Darren Purdon never misses a football match on TV these days, but it’s not because he is a fan of the beautiful game.
Instead of following the action, the 21-year-old’s eyes are fixed on the animated advertising hoardings that surround the pitch.
Darren, a fourth year student in BA (Hons) graphic design for digital media at Glasgow Caledonian University, has been snapped up by The Football Company to create animated adverts.
He said: “I enjoy the challenge as it’s improving my skills. I’m interested in working in the advertising industry so I’m off to a great start.”
The Football Company contacted the university after being recommended by a former student and the East Kilbride company’s head of operations, Ronnie Witmann, said: “Darren’s work keeps improving and he’s adding new features to adverts all the time.
“This enhances our product which ensures that our customers are happy with how their brand is appearing on screen.”
Elizabeth Beidler, programme leader of Darren’s course at GCU, said: “It’s rare for an opportunity like this to come along.
“I was incredibly proud when I saw Darren’s ads for the first time during a big match on the BBC.”
