Stars of the future heading for Ravenscraig

A GROUP of young Spanish footballers are set to receive a warm Scottish welcome when they take to the pitch at Ravenscraig.

The facility will host an under-10s seven-a-side match between Scotland and Spain on Wednesday, August 8.

The game, which will kick-off at 11am, is part of a training camp and cultural exchange visit for the Spaniards.

John Swanson, Ravenscraig facilities Manager, said: “We are really looking forward to hosting this match.

“Hugo Alonso, who is the General Secretary of the European Capitals of Sport Association, has brought a team of talented 10-year-olds from Spain for a week’s training camp and cultural exchange visit.

“The week will culminate with the international match against a North Lanarkshire select team, with kids who took part in the holiday football programmes representing Scotland.

“I know they are only young players, but with Spain being the current reining European and World champions and most of the team coming from Madrid, I’m sure we will see a bit of footballing flair on the pitch.

“I would encourage anyone who is free to come along and enjoy the game.”

Entry to watch the match is free.
