Standards high at North schools swimming event

The North Lanarkshire Schools Swimming Championships took place at Sir Matt Busby Sports Complex, Bellshill.

Almost 300 children from 86 schools competed with many setting personal best times and achieving the qualifying time for the Scottish Schools finals next month in East Kilbride.

Among the winners were: Josh Robertson (Bellshill Academy) - boys’ 400m freestyle; Brendan Sloan (Cardinal Newman High) - boys’ 13/14 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle; Jack McComish (Dalziel High) - boys’ 17/19 100m freestyle, 100m breaststroke, 200m freestyle, 200m breaststroke.

William Balfour (Brannock High) - boys’ 13/14 200m individual medley, 100m breaststroke, 200m breaststroke; Caoilen Doyle (Taylor High) - boys’ 15/16 200m individual medley, 100m butterfly, boys 400m individual medley.

David McLuckie (Bellshill Academy) - boys’ 15/16 200m backstroke, 200m butterfly, 100m backstroke; Josh Robertson (Bellshill Academy) - boys’ 17/19 200m backstroke; Darren Smyth (Dalziel High) - boys’ 15/16 100m breaststroke.

Jonathan Doyle (Taylor High) - boys’ 17/19 200m butterfly; Thomas Balfour (Brannock High) - boys’ 13/14 100m backstroke; Liam Buchanan (Taylor High) - boys’ 15/15 200m breaststroke; Ewan Govan (Motherwell College) - boys’ 17/19 100m butterfly.
