A NEWLY refurbished gym has been opened at the Sir Matt Busby Complex in Bellshill - bringing the total invested in the sports facility over the past few years to almost £1million.
North Lanarkshire Leisure has spent around £150,000 on the improvements which included extension of the centre’s former gym area and the creation of a new dance studio.
The work follows a £760,000 upgrade of the complex’s swimming pool which was completed in September 2011.
North Lanarkshire Leisure chief executive Blane Dodds said: “The new Technogym equipment is among the best available, and with around 100 different exercise activities to choose from there’s plenty to keep people occupied and challenged.
“There’s also functional training and stretch areas which include a mix of TRX, gym balls, medicine balls, power bags, kettle bells, speed balls and kick bags.”
The new gym boasts 38 cardiovascular units, 20 resistance machines and 25 spin bikes and will also have earlier opening times - 6am on weekdays and 8am at weekends.
Councillor Jim Logue, chairman of North Lanarkshire Leisure, said: “Across North Lanarkshire we are determined to provide people with the best possible opportunities to take part in sport and exercise and enjoy the benefits it can bring.
“Over the past few years, almost £1million has been invested in the Sir Matt Busby Sports Centre.
“This investment demonstrates the importance that North Lanarkshire Leisure, sportscotland and the council place on swimming and indeed the benefits of physical activity.”
