Rugby clubs aim for a return to action

DALZIEL Rugby Club 1st XV are hoping to be back in action on Saturday after a seven-week break.

The Motherwell team had four Premier 3 fixtures postponed because of the wintry weather and had no games scheduled over Christmas.

On Saturday they are due to face Peebles away in the second round of games in Pool H of the Premier Cup.

Dalziel's first tie was a 10-0 defeat by Boroughmuir in November while Peebles were thrashed 31-0 by the other team in the group, Stirling.

The bad weather has heaped frustration on Dalziel who had made a promising start to their first season in Premier 3 before hitting a rough patch. They lost three league games in a row before snow and ice wiped out a month of fixtures.

Meanwhile, Uddingston Rugby Club 1st XV are also looking forward to a return to action on Saturday at home to Wigtownshire in a Regional Bowl second round tie.

The Villagers have had only one game over the last two months, a 28-18 West District League defeat away to Millbrae in mid-December.
