SPORTY pupils from schools across the county recently battled it out in the final of a new rugby tournament, which was set up to encourage more youngsters to get involved in playing the game.
The Morgan Sindall Lanarkshire Schools Rugby Cup and Shield attracted students from S3 and S4 to the action-packed final, which was recently held at Dalziel Park.
The contest, which was set up by the Hamilton-based construction firm Morgan Sindall, had a total of 16 schools competing from September.
Hamilton Grammar triumphed in the final beating Duncanrig Secondary 19-12 while Dalziel High won the Shield competition, which was for teams knocked out in the tournament's first round.
Dalziel won 54-17 against opponents Holy Cross High School.
Ali McCall, tournament organiser and North Lanarkshire Council's rugby development officer, said; "The tournament has been a fantastic event and we're really grateful for Morgan Sindall's support which made the whole thing possible."
