FILMING of a new sports show will take place at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility in Motherwell.

CBBC’s Ultimate Sports Day will be filmed at the facility and is set to be broadcast in the run-up to London 2012.

The 11-part series will see four teams of four young athletes from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland run, jump, shoot, paddle and ride in a bid to be crowned the Ultimate Sports Day champions.

Their mentors will include decathlete Dean Macey, for England, and seven times British champion ice dancer Sinead Kerr, for Scotland.

International sprinter Christian Malcolm will be flying the flag for Wales and Northern Ireland are being led by former world featherweight boxing champion Barry McGuigan.

Hosted by Ore Oduba, BBC Sport and CBBC’s Newsround presenter, each episode will test the teams’ sports skills. Backed by the Youth Sports Trust, the young athletes will have their progress followed from their first sports trial through to the two finals and the crowning of the winning team.

Jim Logue, chairman of North Lanarkshire Leisure, said: “It’s great to host such a high profile event , particularly one aimed at getting young people interested in sport.”
