NEWARTHILL ABC middleweight Gary McCallum has secured a sponsorship deal with Motherwell firm GM Civil & Structural Consulting Engineers, who will look after his equipment, nutritional and training costs.
Gary is unbeaten in five professional fights and is looking toward the new season as he hopes to keep his unbeaten record intact and work towards a title shot of some kind.
The 22-year-old lives with his partner and daughter in Castlemilk and trains five nights a week in Newarthill’s Mosshall Gym under trainer Willie Downie and is managed by Tommy Gilmour.
Gary would like to thank GM director Michael Carlin and his company for all their support.
Meanwhile, clubmate Dylan Arbuckle from Carfin represented Scotland in an international against Ireland in Kilkenny.
The 13-year-old Brannock High pupil beat Irish champion Thomas McCarthy 10-9 in a very hard fought 36kg contest.
Scotland coach and ABS Talent ID head of coaching and selection Danny Lee said: “This was a hard fought contest with Dylan coming out on top after three rounds.
“The first two rounds were boxed at a very high pace with both boxers scoring points from fast straight punches. Dylan lost most of his points from a slack defense at his back hand on the way out of a clinch.
“However, his defense tightened up going into the last round and he scored with his back hand over his opponents lead hand and hooks to win a great contest.”
