THE Well Society is set to get formal representation on the Motherwell board after two members were nominated to become club directors.
Well Society chairman Graham Barnstaple and Brian McCafferty will be formally appointed by the club in the coming weeks.
The pair were both elected as board members of the fans’ group in October and will continue to help drive efforts to raise at least £1.5million to give the supporters overall control of their club.
Barnstaple said: “I am honoured to have been nominated to join board of Motherwell FC and having the chance to shape the future of the club I have supported for over 50 years.
“I’m also looking forward to representing the views of the society membership at board meetings and keeping the information flow open.”
McCafferty added: “I’m excited about the challenge of helping the club continue moving towards a fan ownership model and honoured to be representing the fans on the club board.
“In the long term, this is a real chance for the Motherwell supporting community to gain control of the club, an opportunity many football fans can only dream of.”
The society have been working closely with the club in recent weeks over moves towards reconstruction in Scottish football.
The board held several meetings with the club and chief executive Leeann Dempster and director Derek Weir hosted a wider debate with members. Another meeting is planned with fans not in the society.
Barnstaple said: “This is the perfect example of the club and the fans working together and having two members on the board can only improve the co-operation.”
McCafferty added: “The more fans that contribute to the Well Society, the more say we will have in the running of the club, so I would urge all supporters to look into joining and making the dream a reality.”
