Motherwell legend Peter Millar has died at the age of 62, just months after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Starting his career at Arbroath, Bobby Howitt brought him to Fir Park from Dunfremline Athletic in 1972.

He would make 238 appearances in claret and amber before joining Dundee in 1979.

Peter followed this with a brief spell in America before retiring to a job in the civil service, although he also managed in the Juniors and returned to Fir Park as a youth coach.

A Motherwell FC spokesperson said: “Everyone at Motherwell FC is deeply saddened to learn of Peter’s death.

“He had been struggling with illness, but his passing has still come as a bit of a shock to the system and our deepest condolences are with his family.”
