Uddingston Cricket Club defeated Poloc by 40 runs in their traditional pre-season friendly for the Eric Lane Memorial Trophy at Bothwell Castle Policies on Saturday.
It was the Villagers’ final warm-up game before the start of the new Western Union season which gets under way this Saturday.
Uddingston batted first and Poloc did their best to restrict their experienced top order trio of Derek Allan, Gowtham Rai and new professional Anwar Hafeez.
Allan was first out, trapped in from by Ihty with the score on 29.
Uddingston then moved on to 74 before Rai was caught by Ihty off Abhi’s bowling.
However Hafeez went on to make 33 and, with further contributions from Amir Gul (20), Nick Martin (19) and Ricky Bawa (20 not out), the home innings closed on 161 for 9 after 50 overs.
The Poloc reply stuttered along from the start as Uddingston took wickets at regular intervals, reducing their opponents to 57 for 7.
An unbeaten 38 from Ihty showed the higher order batsmen how it was done but the Glasgow side was bowled out 40 runs short of their target.
Top Uddingston wicket taker was Bawa with three while Scott McKenzie, Gul and Hafeez took two apiece.
The Villagers’ competitive season begins on Saturday when the 1st XI travel to play Dumfries while the 2nd XI are at home to Nunholm.
The 1st XI’s first home league game is on Saturday, May 9, against Ferguslie.
