Motherwell badminton player Alex Dunn dominated at the UK Schools Games in Manchester winning three golds and one silver.
His first success came in the team event, as Scotland edged out England 3-2, despite mixed fortunes for Dunn as he won his singles match, but was beaten along with Matthew Duguid in the boys’ doubles.
In the individual events Dunn took his opportunity to shine as he and Holly Newall teamed up to claim gold in the mixed doubles with victory over Callum Hemming and Lizzie Tolman.
Hemming and Johnnie Torjussen were the ones who had beaten Dunn and Duguid in the team event and they did it against the boys’ doubles final, making it the only event a Scot didn’t win.
Last year Dunn had to settle for bronze in the singles, but this year he was determined to claim the gold and finally got the better of Torjussen to lift the title.
Only doubles partner Newall outshone Dunn as she claimed four golds in the team, singles, girls’ doubles and mixed doubles.
