The search to find Scotland’s Strongest Man is coming to Motherwell.

Over the next few months the Hostile Strength and Conditioning Gym in Flemington Industrial Park will stage four high-profile strongman events.

First up will be the Scotland’s Strongest Man competition for 105kg which will take place on Sunday, June 7, from 11am to 5pm.

On July 19 the gym will hold the Scotland’s Strongest Man open category event and on August 2 there will be a qualifier for SFN Fitness Expo at the SEC.

And the programme will be rounded off on September 27 when Lanarkshire’s Strongest Man will be crowned.

But as well as providing some eyecatching exploits, the event will also help charity by raising money for the Army Benevolent Fund.

Gym owner Martin Lennox was asked to run the events after he organised a successful charity strongman competition last year which raised £2,546 for Scottish Autism.

He said: “ Lanarkshire had never had anything like this until I put on my charity competition last year.

“Thankfully it got noticed and I got offered the chance to run Scotland’s Strongest Man.

“To get two national titles here is a great thing. Hopefully these will run smoothly and have positive effect that I get to keep them here

“Throughout this period it will be a continuous fundraising drive towards the last competition in September.

“The aim is to get as much money as posible for the Army Benevolent Fund which is an amazing charity and over the years helped many a soldier and their families from Lanarkshire.”

Everything gets under way a week on Sunday when 24 competitors from all over Scotland will take part in spectacular events such as the seven-and-a-half ton truck pull, a 300kg car walk and lifting Atlas stones weighing up to 180kg onto a platform.

All events are free to attend but there will be sealed buckets for spectators to give charity donations if they wish.

Martin added: “The events will take place in an 8,000 square feet warehouse so with everything under cover.

“So weather won’t be an issue and we’re sure it will be a really great family day which will also help a great charity.”
