Bothwell badminton star Kirsty Gilmour lost out at the final hurdle in the prestigious London Grand Prix Gold event last weekend.

The 20-year-old fifth seed, looking to add to the Czech International title she won the previous weekend, went all the way to the final before losing to Spain’s Carolina Marin.

Kirsty, ranked 34 in the world, opened up a 15-8 lead in the opening set but the more experienced Marin, world number 20, hit back to win 21-19 21-9.

She said afterwards; “This is my first major final. Maybe I wasn’t ready to win it but getting to this point is a big positive for me.”
