Youngsters from swimming clubs throughout North Lanarkshire went the distance as Sir Matt Busby Complex in Bellshill held triathlon time trials.
The swimmers underwent gruelling 800 metres and 1,500 metres swims - the latter being the same distance triathletes will swim at the Commonwealth Games at Strathclyde Park.
Swimmers from Bellshill Sharks and Motherwell and Wishaw ASC were joined by young swimmers from Cumbernauld and Airdrie
Bellshill Sharks head coach Scott Warnock said: “All of the swimmers did exceptionally well, with most recording personal best times .
“It is rewarding to reflect that our young 1,500m swimmers were swimming the same distance that the world’s best triathletes will swim during the Glasgow 2014 Games.
“Although there is clearly a difference between swimming in an indoor pool and outdoor open water swimming, the basic technique, stamina and endurance required is the same.
“Some of North Lanarkshire’s top young swimmers were recording times that would not be too far out of reach of our top triathlete’s times, which underlines the talent potential in the area.”
