A CHARITY football match held in Ravencraig Regional Sports Facility in memory of a Newarthill man has helped raise almost £4,400 for a good cause.

The Times & Speaker previously reported that the match, organised by Scottish Womens’ National team player Rhonda Jones, was held in memory of Gary William Lonie, who died last September at just 28-years-old after committing suicide.

Between the match and a raffle at The Orb in Bellshill, a total of £4,382 will be donated to PETAL (People Experiencing Trauma and Loss) Support Group in Hamilton who supported the family.

Rhonda said: “We are so grateful to everyone who donated, supported and helped make the day so successful.”
