FORMER Celtic skipper Stephen McManus has joined Motherwell on a one-year deal.

The defender, who has 26 Scotland caps, was a free agent after leaving Middlesbrough at the end of the season. He had been on loan at Bristol City.

McManus said: “There is a real family atmosphere which is what drew me to the club. I always had an idea I would come here though it was a hard decision as other clubs were interested. I can’t wait to get started and will give it my best shot.”

McManus played 202 times for Celtic. He moved to Boro for £1.5 million in 2010.
