Martial arts club is alive and kicking

MEMBERS of an Uddingston Tae Kwon Do club struck gold in the Scottish Championships at Ravenscraig.

More than 500 competitors from all over the UK took part in the Tae Kwon Do Association of Great Britain event.

The Uddingston group won 20 gold, silver and bronze medals gained in the sparring, team sparring and patterns divisions.

Individual sparring medal winners were - Michelle Duffy, gold; Aiden Carlin, Lewis Loughran, John McManus and Holly Yeamans, all silver; Claire Quinn, Jodi Smith, both bronze.

In the team event the medal winners were - Leo McCabe, Dominic McCauley, Calum McManus, Jodi Smith, Holly Yeamans, all gold; Michelle Duffy, Caitlin Mullen, Claire Quinn, all silver; John McManus, Aiden Carlin, Jon Maxwell, all bronze.

Claire Quinn won gold in the patterns division and is now the current Welsh and Scottish Champion, while Holly Yeamans picked up the bronze medal in her first ever patterns competition.

Instructor Kirsty Izat said: “In this same tournament last year we had only 11 competitors and this year we had 21. It shows how the club is going from strength to strength and confidence is growing.”

Uddingston TAGB has classes for tots, juniors and adults and trains at the sport centre within Uddingston Grammar on Monday and Wednesday evenings,
