JUNIOR sides Bellshill Athletic and Thorniewood United will take a break from league duty on Saturday when, weather permitting, they play in the Euroscot Engineering Central League Cup.
Both sides face away matches with Central League First Division Bellshill meeting Super League First Division side Glasgow Perthshire in a first round tie and Super League First Division Thorniewood travelling to take on Central League First Division outfit Carluke Rovers in a second round match.
Thorniewood were due to play at Glasgow Perthshire in a league match last Saturday but the game was called off because of the weather, as was Bellshill’s game at Larkhall.
The Viewpark side remain second bottom of the table but still have several games in hand over all the other teams in the league and will be favourites to progress against a Carluke side who are in mid-table in their league after winning the Second Division title last season.
Bellshill would appear to have a tougher task against a Perthshire side who are in the top half of the Super League First Division and will be confident of going through against an Athletic side who are languishing fourth from the foot of the Central League First Division standings.
Last season Perthshire did the double over Bellshill on their way to lifting the Central First Division title, winning 2-1 at home and 2-0 at Fullarton Park.
Both games will kick-off at 2pm and a Bellshill Athletic’s supporters’ bus will leave The Orb at 12.30. Non members are welcome and seats can be booked by calling Alex Conner on 07729 378818.
There were no lottery winners and the prize remains £2,000.
