’Well eyes on Monaco for Euro draw
MOTHERWELL have only two days to wait before they finally learn which leading European side they will face in their historic Champions League qualifier.
Club director Andrew Wilson will fly to Monaco for the third qualifying round draw on Friday.
’Well have known since May that they will tackle one of four clubs - Dinamo Kiev, Panathanaikos, Fenerbahce and FC Copenhagen - over two legs between July 31 and August 8.
Wilson will represent the club at the momentous occasion, with manager Stuart McCall staying home to prepare for Saturday’s friendly with Everton at Fir Park.
The draw is a welcome distraction as fears grow for the future of clubs after Rangers were told they must play in Division 3 next season following the financial meltdown that led to them going into liquidation.
SPL clubs look certain to lose a chunk of the money they get from television companies as a result of Rangers being thrown out of the SPL. Speculation was rife at the weekend that several will not cope with the loss of this significant source of income.
