Rowing stars of future are put through paces
John Gill puts Caitlin Horsburgh, Kathleen Castell, Beth Simmonds and Helena Davidson through their paces
The country’s top young rowers gathered at Strathclyde Park for Scottish Rowing’s annual junior development camp.
The invitation-only camp held at the Scottish Rowing Centre is targeted at athletes aged 14-17 who have the hunger and desire to progress their rowing to the next level.
The weekend gave 18 young rowers from Inverness, Glasgow and Dumfries as well as the home Strathclyde club, the chance to learn about sports science, technique and nutrition.
It also let Scottish Rowing’s performance development coach, Sean Leyland, and his team assess their fitness, ability and strength.
Scottish Rowing Centre facility manager John Blair said: “This camp is always an excellent opportunity to get the best youngsters in the country together and guide them towards the next part of their career which, hopefully, will lead to them representing Scotland and maybe even getting on the Olympic team in the future.”
