Rhys is club golden boy

MOTHERWELL’s Rhys Goodfellow has won his first taekwondo medals on a national stage at the Scottish Championships in Edinburgh.

Logans Primary pupil Rhys (7) picked up gold for both his patterns and special technique, as well as silver for his sparring.

Rhys, who trains at Scotia Taekwondo in Motherwell, has been involved in the sport for four years and has risen to rainbow brown belt.

Scotia also holds classes in Bothwell and two of its members there, Bronson Chan and Lewis Duffy, also left Edinburgh with medals.

Bronson (12), from Hamilton, won gold for his sparring and special technique and bronze for his patterns, while Lewis (9), from Rutherglen, picked up gold for special technique.

Scotia instructor Gary Armstong, a second degree black belt, won gold in sparring and silver in patterns while Lyle Walker, from Carluke, won bronze in sparring at the World Championships in Slovenia.

Scotia meets in Bothwell Parish Church hall on Thursdays at 6pm for children and adults, while a youths-only class takes place in North Motherwell Parish Church hall at 6pm on Thursdays.
