Ravenscraig sports facility set for opening

A 24-HOUR football event will help kick-off the opening of the new £32m Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility.

The state-of-the-art complex will open its doors from noon on Thursday, September 30, to help raise money for St Andrew's Hospice.

Primary school children will kick-off the event with a variety of other teams taking part over the following 24 hours.

Teams taking part will include past football masters and the media, students, businesses and it will conclude with an SPL match between Motherwell and Rangers under-19s at 10am on the Friday.

Real Radio sports pundits Ewen Cameron and Alan Rough will broadcast their live football phone-in show from the venue before going head to head on the new FIFA approved full-sized third generation indoor pitch.

The facility boasts an indoor full-sized football pitch with spectator seating, a full-sized outdoor third generation surface and six outdoor floodlit five-a-side pitches.

The complex also features a six lane 135m running track, throw and jump areas and a strength and conditioning area for athletes to use plus a multi-sports hall with nine badminton courts, a huge fitness gym, dance studios, a sports injury clinic, drug testing area, meeting rooms and office facilities.

The closing date for applications is Monday, September 13.

Following the 24-hour football event there will be two open days on October 2 and 3 featuring a variety of activities and demonstrations before the facility is officially opened on Monday, October 4.
