Lewis in fast lane to glory
MOTHERWELL Athletic Club sprinter Lewis Gibb is aiming for glory at the 2014 Commonwealth Games – with the help of his dad.
Although the 13-year-old has been competing for only two years, he already has a trophy cabinet to be proud of.
He had top position in the Scottish under-13 rankings last year for the 60m and 100m, and secured third place in the UK for the 60m.
Now running at under-15 level, Lewis won silver in the Scottish under-15 60m and bronze in the 100m. He is also the Scottish Schools under-14 100m champion.
Now Lewis's dad, Robert, who is a former athlete, has qualified as a coach specifically to help his son achieve his Commonwealth Games dream.
Lewis said: "For the past two years I've had a huge amount of support from my coach at Motherwell AC, Bob McCrum, as well as my dad who's driven me all over the country to make sure I compete in as many events as possible."
The dedicated youngster trains at Wishaw Sports Centre on Monday and Wednesday evenings, and Saturday mornings.
He added: "I normally train with an older, more experienced athlete as this allows me to push myself further than I normally would. Bob is a great coach as he really pushes me to my limit."
