Lanarkshire hosts new Highland Games
CHATELHERAULT Country Park will host a new Highland Games this summer.
On Sunday, June 27, the Noel Kegg Ltd sponsored event will see a prominent line up of eminent athletes and attractions.
The main draw and crowd-puller will be the Scottish Open Strength Series championship which is a 10 event challenge featuring the top men from the worlds of strongman, athletics, highland games and powerlifting.
Already booked to appear are tv strongman and European powerlifting champion Andy Cairney, World heavy events champion Gregor Edmunds, Scottish shot putt champion Scott Thompson and the giant strongman Gary Gardiner who stands 6ft 9in tall and weighs 336 lbs.
The field for the Scottish Strength Series Ladies championship will be led by Scottish, British, European and World powerlifting champion Mary Anderson.
Its not all brawn though with grace and beauty on the platform with a full days highland dancing competition under Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing (SOBHD) rules.
Music is also given a high priority with pipe bands and Scottish accordion champion Norman McKay on stage with his band.
There will be a range of country pursuits led by Graham Neilson's falconry flying display from Strathblane Country Estate plus fly casting, archery and laser clay shooting.
Spectators will have the opportunity to try some of the challenges in the novice and visitors section with events for all age groups with medals awarded.
Gates open at 11.30am with the main programme beginning at 1pm.
