Kickboxer McGinnis is ready to step up

NEW Stevenston kickboxer Jamie McGinnis is back in action on Saturday and faces his toughest test.

The undefeated lightweight, who fights out of Impact Kickboxing in Holytown, takes on British IKF champion Sam Shambley, from Barnsley, in a non-title bout at Glasgow University.

The Yorkshireman has lost just one of 18 fights and McGinnis’s trainer, Jan Cree, says the fight is a risk, but one worth taking.

He said: “After his last fight Jamie didn’t take a break so we looked about and Shambley had no hesitation about accepting the bout.

“To be honest, it’s becoming harder and harder to get Jamie matched up as a lot of people are worried by his growing reputation. There is no doubt this is a step up in quality for him, but one we feel he needs to continue developing.”

Also fighting on Saturday from Impact’s stable is light-middleweight boxer James Cotter who has his second professional bout in Renfrew.
