Kickboxer Jamie loses his unbeaten record

NEW Stevenston kickboxer Jamie McGinnis suffered his first defeat in Glasgow on Saturday.

The lightweight, who fights out of Impact Kickboxing in Holytown, lost by one point over five rounds to British IKF champion Sam Shambley in a split-decision.

Despite the reversal to the Yorkshireman, trainer Jan Cree believes the result could pay dividends in the long run.

He said: “It was a great fight and if we had maybe pushed a little more in the last round Jamie would have taken it.

“There were many positives to take from the fight as Jamie coped brilliantly up against a southpaw for the first time. We knew it was a step up in quality and he made a really good job of getting his leg kicks in.

“Jamie now knows he isn’t unbeatable and we are in negotiations for a rematch in March with the title on the line.”

There was further disappointment for Impact on Saturday as light-middleweight boxer James ‘Cotter’ Clarke lost his second professional bout in Renfrew.

Then to compound his misery Clarke was rushed to hospital and is currently receiving treatment for pneumonia.
