Crafty fundraising from Busby girls

Guide Dogs UK has received a welcome boost from the East Ren area, thanks to the efforts of Busby Primary pupils Eilidh Carmichael, Sophie Henderson and Louisa and Francesca Duncan.

The Clarkston girls (all 10) visited the Guide Dog Centre in Hamilton this week to deliver £774 to service delivery manager Wendy Kinnin, for the Glasgow Mobility Team.

The foursome had worked hard — with a little help from mums and dads — to make bracelets, button picture frames, bookmarks, loom band charms, gift bags, broaches and candles to sell in aid of the charity, which provides mobility assistance for those who are blind or partially-sighted.

The girls set up stall at the Afternoon Tea Craft Sale held at Busby Parish Church recently, impressing shoppers with their homemade wares and raking in the charity cash.

Jane Henderson, proud mum to Sophie, told The Extra: “The girls arranged this themselves. They thought up the idea, worked out what they wanted to do and went round the area advertising the event — the community came out and really supported it.”

And Eilidh, Sophie and twins Louisa and Francesca were able to see just what their fundraising was for while visiting the centre, as Wendy introduced them to guide dog puppy Cracker (pictured).
