Cup repeat will suit Villagers

UDDINGSTON Cricket Club are hoping history repeats itself as they prepare to take on Stirling County in the Scottish Cup final on Saturday.

The Villagers head for Hamilton Crescent in Glasgow aiming to capture the trophy for the second time in seven years – and the omens could be on their side.

When Uddingston won the trophy in their only previous appearance in the final, in 2003, the match against West of Scotland was also played at Hamilton Crescent.

Not only that but their quarter-final and semi-final opponents on their way to glory that year were Heriots and Dunfermline, the teams they defeated at the same stages this year.

The match will start at noon and a large following is expected from Premier League Uddingston who will be favourites against their Division 1 opponents.

Uddingstons hopes of a morale boosting victory before the final were dashed as they lost to Greenock at Castle Policies on Saturday
