Motherwell boxer Paul ‘Charlie’ King is aiming to kickstart his career Down Under after one last fight on British soil this Saturday.
The Scottish lightweight champion faces Merseyside’s Steve Williams at the Olympia in Liverpool prior to packing his bags and moving to Australia for a year.
King won when he and Williams met as amateurs and he is confident history will repeat itself.
He said: “I have been sparring with Ricky Burns and although I’m a little heavier than normal I feel good. While Steve has talent, the fact I beat him when we were amateurs persuaded me I could do it again.”
King will step on to a plane next month and spend a year in Brisbane working with former Forgewood ABC fighter Paul Denholm.
He said: “I was made redundant in December and with a bit of money saved up I decided to take the chance.
“I’ll fight when I’m in Australia and while the boxing scene out there doesn’t get much coverage here, I’m sure there will be plenty of talented fighters.
