BELLSHILL youngster Katie-Ann Cassidy thought she had won the prize of a lifetime when she was chosen to be one of the mascots before Celtic’s recent Champions League clash with Barcelona - but she was wrong.
The thrilled seven-year-old did indeed take to the field with Parkhead star Adam Matthews as the teams lined up for the Champions League anthem.
But far from being a one-off Katie-Ann is set to do the same again before Celtic’s decisive clash with Spartak Moscow tonight (Wednesday) after winning the mascot competition organised by competition sponsors Mastercard for a second time.
The Primary 3 pupil at Sacred Heart Primary in Bellshill will once again be the envy of her classmates and her family are hoping that she will again prove a lucky mascot as Celtic try to follow up their dramatic 2-1 victory over the Catalan giants with another glory night to take them into the last 16 of the competition..
She was nominated for the Mastercard Player Escort Experience competition by her uncle, Robert Meechan.
Anna-Marie, Robert’s wife and Katie-Ann’s aunt, said: “My husband was absolutely astonished that she won twice.
“She said that when she went on the pitch it was really loud but was a brilliant experience.
“She also got to keep the Champions League mascot kit that she wore that night.”
