An injury time Louis Moult strike after substitute Marvin Johnson’s left wing cross earned Motherwell a 1-1 home Scottish Premiership draw against Ross County on Saturday.

Moult’s close range effort preserved ’Well’s unbeaten record against County at Fir Park and put ’Well eighth in the table with seven points from as many matches.

Motherwell manager Ian Baraclough said: “I’m pleased we got the reward, probably with our best move of the game.

“We outnumbered them on strikes on goal and felt we deserved something from it.

“Louis is on a hot streak at the moment and he works so tirelessly for the team. I was pleased that he was right in the middle of the goal for the ball that came in from Marvin because his work-rate and endeavour deserved that.”

Although County started the livelier side, Motherwell missed a great chance to take the lead after just three minutes when Moult volleyed wide from the edge of the box after an initial cross from the left had been partially headed clear.

County responded by forcing a succession of corners, one of which saw Liam Boyce head just wide from Michael Gardyne’s delivery after 10 minutes.

Moult’s next scoring chance came after Ross County had given the ball away on 29 minutes, but the former Wrexham striker’s shot was saved by keeper Scott Fox.

Ross County took the lead three minutes later when Gardyne scored with a low shot past Connor Ripley after a long free-kick into the Motherwell box had been headed into his path.

Below par Scott McDonald was replaced by recent signing Theo Robinson as ’Well boss Baraclough tried to get his team back into it.

County’s Jamie Reckord was booked for a 56th minutes foul on Lionel Ainsworth, before ’Well replaced an out of sorts Dom Thomas with Marvin Johnson.

County’s Richard Foster saw yellow for a foul on Jake Taylor in what was a turgid second half.

The visitors wasted a glorious chance to seal the points when Boyce shot just over on 89 minutes, before ’Well grabbed a dramatic point when a fine passing move saw Moult net after fine work by Johnson.
