NEWLY-crowned Scottish champion Pat Holtz has added the 2011 Lanarkshire blackball singles title to his list of honours.
Cue Here Pool Club in Airdrie hosted the event as 64 of the county’s best competed.
Holtz, representing Uddingston Pool League, was the favourite, but with several former Scottish champions involved there was plenty of competition.
Uddingston started the tournament with nine players in the draw.
Holtz got off to a good start with a 4-1 win over East Kilbride’s Graeme Leggate.
In the last 32 Holtz almost made an exit as Monklands’ Ross Hendrie came back from 3-0 down to level at 3-3 and then missed a long black for victory as Holtz took advantage to sneak through.
After his previous round scare Holtz beat East Kilbride’s Tam Talent 4-1 and Holtz was the last Uddingston player standing after the quarter-finals with a convincing 5-1 win over Avondale’s Jamie McCutcheon.
Holtz stormed into the final with a 5-1 win over Kilsyth’s George MacLean where he beat former Scottish champion Paddy McMullen of Monklands.
Holtz said: “Having won the Scottish title in November, I knew I was in good form, but there were plenty of other guys more than capable of winning. I was delighted to lift the trophy.”
