STRATHCLYDE Park Rowing Club have secured the services of a new coach to put the junior section through their paces six hours a week.
Jeff Roche arrives courtesy of the Henley Stewards’ Charitable Trust and will split his time between studying at Stirling University and helping the Motherwell club as well as coaching at Castle Semple and Glasgow Schools Rowing Club.
Originally from Essex, Roche started rowing four years ago when studying at Loughborough University.
He competed in the Henley Royal Regatta three years in row, as well as the Head of the River Race and the Metropolitan Regatta on the Thames.
He is no stranger to Strathclyde Park, having competed there, and is hugely impressed with the facilities at the park’s Scottish Rowing Centre.
Roche said: “The indoor facility is first class and it is a bonus to be able to teach the basics without worrying the youngsters could fall in the water.”
The club enjoyed great success at the Scottish Indoor Rowing Champions in the Centre for Sport and Exercise at Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh.
